School lunches

Well it's a new week and hopefully one that will be better than last week! I will be trying that recipe I told you about last week and posting the review tomorrow. But this morning I'm thinking about school lunches. Bubba takes his lunch to school because he gets fuller and eats healthier than he would if he ate lunch at school. For instance last week on his lunch menu was
  • a fruit and yogurt parfait
  • cheese stick
  • baby carrots
  • teddy grahams
  • milk
NOT KIDDING!!!! Really that will fill up a growing 9 year old boy? Before we moved here his old school had a salad and fruit bar as well...but here they eat in their classes...lunch is brought to the room so what is on the menu is what you get. This week one of the lunches is:
  • Baked cheese sticks with marinara
  • Baby carrots
  • Spinach & Blueberry Salad
  • Milk
On the rare occasion he does decide he wants school lunch he always takes extra from home to help complete it. He would rather take his lunch because he gets full, and it's healthier yummier. I love that he takes his lunch because I know he gets full and he's eating yummy healthy food, besides the fact that the lunches are $1.95 a day!!! We can get him two weeks worth of lunch stuff that will fill him up for what it would cost us to have him eat at school for a week. He has fun picking out his lunch stuff in the mornings and when we go grocery shopping. He even has a whole drawer in the pantry that is only for his lunch stuff which he gets a kick out of because not even dad gets into it!

What do your school aged children do for lunch?
