Valentine's Eve & Heart Calzones

Today is the day I do all my shopping for Valentines day. This includes the gifts Cupid leaves on the table for the kids (usually some candies and something for each kid that strikes her fancy), the ingredients for the family dinner, the stuff for making Moose's Valentines with him (candy MP3 players this year) and of course some chocolate for me the family. But tomorrows family Valentine dinner is going to be a lot of fun! The reason I say family dinner is because FFF Hubby always makes us a yummy, gourmet meal and sets the table up all fancy and we enjoy a quiet dinner after the kids are in bed. It's our tradition...no reservations needed, no sitters, and we get to enjoy a fun dinner with the kids and a romantic one with each other! But anyways the family dinner will be Calzone Hearts!!!! The kids will each get to help make theirs and it's perfect for our family dinner and a movie! I'll share the recipe with you now so you can make them with your family if you choose!

Heart Calzones

Dough
 Ingredients
  • 1 pkg yeast
  • 1 Tbsp sugar
  • 1 cup warm water
  • 1 tsp salt
  • 3 Tbsp olive oil
  • 1 ¾ cup white flour
  • 1 ¼ cup whole wheat flour
Combine yeast, sugar and warm water and let set for 5 minutes.  Mix remaining ingredients and then add yeast mixture.  Let dough rise, in a warm place, for about 1-2 hours, until double in size.

Filling
  • Mozzarella cheese
  • Marinara sauce
  • Pepperoni
  • Canadian Bacon
  • Pineapple
  • Olives
  • Mushrooms
Roll out a small portion of the dough at a time, cutting two equal sized hearts.  Put a thin layer of Marinara sauce on each side of the heart then add fillings of your choice (to one side), then add cheese. Place the top on then crimp edges with a fork.  Set on baking tray.  Bake at 400 for 10-15 minutes until lightly browned. Serve with marinara sauce for dipping.

Of course you can buy the pre-made pizza dough in those tube things and make the dough part easier for you. Your toppings will vary from ours of course!  It's always a blast cooking with the kids and they love making their food. Have a fabulous day! It's time for Cupid to go shopping!

Blessings
Becky
